Texts/Readings
1997 to present
Word sketches of the human figure. Nudes in words. Life Studies. A body of work developed mainly at artists' life study groups between 1997 and 2008, but still continued when a model is available and the interest is there to produce more work of this kind. These texts - poetic in the way that they mine language for similes, metaphors and descriptive gestures - are texts that respond directly to the figure, using observation in the same way that a visual artist would.

Readings and other performances
Life Studies remains a continually evolving collection of texts, selections of which have been presented or performed in various ways at various venues since 1998, including The Royal Oak, Lewes (1998); Norden Farm Centre for the Arts in Maidenhead; Berkshire (as Body Language, 2006); The Atrium, Leeds (2006); Redroaster, Brighton (with Lol Coxhill) and Komedia Studio Bar, Brighton (with Anne Pigalle) as part of Brighton Fringe Festival 2007; Wychwood Festival 2007; Grill Room at the Café Royale, London (2007); Whitechapel Art Gallery, London (2008) and elsewhere.
Life study and text dawn from observation has also became a notable feature of Mark Hewitt's writing for theatre.
