Creating literary product for touring / cabaret promotions
The Literary Cabaret Company is a project devised by Mark Hewitt with two main aims.
Firstly, to experiment with developing edgy new live literature productions for touring, either regionally or nationally.
Secondly, as a vehicle for responding to an abiding interest in early twentieth century cabaret - both revisiting its artistic forms and original output and developing new work that draws on the same well of inspiration. The fascination with early cabaret - combined with an interest in the European avant garde - has often been pursued in the past through programming for the Lewes Live Literature Festival, but in The Literary Cabaret Company the genre is revisited from a practitioner's rather than a curator's perspective.
