I used to have whole series of dreams in a large house
which changed sometimes. I never saw it as a whole from the
outside but I knew it was the same one. The biggest
nightmare of my childhood took place in the attic and the
cellar. There were a lot of stairways and some weird ways
to get from one space to another. Two rooms had "pools",
one being a very deep body of water with small surface
area; the other was like a flooded temple with columns,
mosaics etc. As I had so many dreams in this house over the
years I came to see it as the self. It changed as I and
those around me changed.
The only dreams I had in the house we actually lived in
there were always black-clad people moving around outside
trying to find a way in.

In my work there is a recurring miniature house, ultra
simplified. I am currently building a kind of miniature
cellular citadel - hexagonal prisms joined, with openings,
paths.

Worth investigating or revisiting:
Brodsky & Utkin's museum of disappearing buildings,
also their glass bridge over a precipice. Hopper.
