New theatre from 1157performancegroup
Tao of Hamlet
Mark is writing text for the new show by experimental theatre company 1157performancegroup. Entitled Tao of Hamlet, the project is the latest in a series of deconstructions by 1157 of Shakespeare's iconic story of vacillation and revenge. This time the drama takes a Kung Fu twist, the action opening mid-ritual in a Taoist temple before the ghost of Hamlet returns to set in motion a second unstoppable descent into tragedy and madness.
Devised, choreographed and directed by Matthew Scott.
Preview performances planned for April/May 2010 followed by an extensive autumn tour.

Weight - short stories by Catherine Smith
Mark is directing a performance of three short stories by writer Catherine Smith from her forthcoming book, The Biting Point. The show, which uses the notion of Weight as a loosely connecting theme, will be performed by the writer with incidental music for accordion and flutes by composer Peter Copley, sound design by John Avery and lighting design by Clare O'Donoghue.
The three stories -' Sow', 'The Kettle' and 'The Ascension of Mary' - constitute a gritty and uncompromising sequence of encounters: from loathing and manslaughter through adultery and bereavement to flying Yorkshirewomen. Preview performances to be announced.
